The Artisan
Carving wood peacefully under the open sky, using only hand tools, is one of Eric’s most sacred places to be. He began his journey into carving over a decade ago, and the fire within him burns brighter than ever. With deep reverence for the material, he is breathing new life into fallen trees, reviving the ancient wisdom of working with our hands, creating with our bodies, and weaving beauty back into daily life.

Sharing the Craft
After carving more than 800 spoons, Eric now turns toward the community, eager to pass on what he has learned. Over the past four years, he has led more than 30 woodcarving workshops, and is currently developing many new offerings for the near future.

The Process
Patience and precision are the foundation of Eric’s craft.
Each spoon undertake a three months’ journey, moving through over a dozen careful stages, from carving green wood to drying, refining, finishing, and oil curing.

What distinguishes Eric’s work is a quiet devotion to the finer details, the extra polish, the thoughtful curing, the final delicate touch that lifts each piece from functional to exquisite.

Working with dense, resilient hardwoods and using only food-safe oils, Eric allows each piece the proper time to cure, achieving an unmatched smoothness and strength, ensuring that each piece will be not only beautiful but built to endure for a lifetime.

The Meaning Behind It
Food is what builds our bodies, renewing our cells and supporting our health. Eating or cooking with something handmade with care and love infuses that same energy into our food and lives.

From a young age, Eric has been drawn to the deep wisdom. As a teenager, he began compiling a book of quotes from the wisest people around the world. For ten years, he served as a mentor, leading “Know Yourself Camps” designed to help both teenagers and adults gain self-understanding, trust in themselves, and move confidently toward their dreams.

With a profound love for music, vibrations, and the mysteries of the universe, Eric spent the next decade as a sound engineer, immersing himself in the world of sound. In his thirties, a pivotal shift occurred in his life. The paths of wood carving and nature connection beckoned, drawing him closer to the land, to trees, to the elements, and to the cycles of life.

Following this transformative journey, Eric completed a two-year cabinet maker program before relocating to Salt Spring Island. There, he joined the Wisdom of the Earth School, diving deep into nature connection through a two-year immersion. Today, Eric is a mentor with the WOLF Kids Nature School and a full-time woodcarver, blending his passion for craftsmanship and his vision for a better future.
