Frequently asked questions

What type of wood do you use?

I carve from what nature provides, primarily using fallen trees or those needing to be removed from properties near my home on Salt Spring Island. Most of the spoons I craft are made from wood sourced just a few kilometers from where I live, each one carrying the story of the tree it came from. Some of my spoons, however, are crafted from wood found in various parts of North America. Whenever I visit family or travel, I always enjoy exploring the local woods, adding new stories and textures to my work.

How do I care for the spoon?

To preserve the finish and enhance its longevity, wash your spoons by hand using minimal or no soap. While not required, applying a coat of oil annually can refresh and sustain their beauty. For best results, use polymerizing oils, such as pure flaxseed oil or pure tung oil, which effectively nourish and protect the wood.
